Facebook Alexa Rank What Happened

Haven’t been a while on Facebook but today I decided to visit it and I checked its Alexa Rank. I saw it is only ranked global on 10. position. There was a time it was ranked almost better than Google. Yes Google still has the first position and Youtube second position. Google is still leading on Alexa Ranking.

I see there are a lot of chinese websites before Facebook, maybe they will as well beat Google, it’s a big market China. Yes of course Facebook is still the biggest social network worldwide, there are about 2.8 billion users. I think they don’t worry about its Alexa Rank, maybe chinese users use more the Alexa Toolbar, because Alexa only counts traffic from users with its Toolbar.

I think Facebook hasn’t lost users, but maybe they have reached the limit of growing. And there are countries they have their own big social networks and anyways there are many social networks around worldwide, it’s a big competition for them. It will be harder as well to generate income if the users use more and more adblockers.

How to improve your Alexa Rank

I don’t know my site hasn’t an alexa rank, the lower the number is the better your alexa rank is. So I write this post about alexa ranking, maybe I get a better one. I wanted to show here my rank but wordpress script doesn’t allow javascript in a post. A few years ago we were able to cheat the alexa rank with boosters and alexa traffic exchanges, but these days are over. I don’t know if you improve the rank with integrating an alexa widget.

For what you need a low alexa rank, it’s good if you selling ad spots, the advertisers will see that you have traffic on your site. If you want to integrate an alexa widget, this is the code:

<a href="https://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/jarchevintes.com">
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://xslt.alexa.com/site_stats/js/s/a?url=jarchevintes.com">

Just use your domain name, jarchevintes.com replace with your domain.

How to speed up your website

For a fast website you need a fast server, I use AWS Amazon Hosting and it’s really fast. And I use for CDN (Content Delivery Network) the one of cloudflare, it’s free and easy to use.

So this site gets a B on gtmetrix and other sites on this server have an A, so the server is pretty fast. On google page speed this site hasn’t really good values, because it has an external iframe embedded, which slows the website down.

If you need just one blog website I recommend using wordpress.com, there is a free version and the site is pretty fast, and you don’t have to worry about your server. But I have several websites and not just blogs, so I need to have my own server.

So if you read that, my new server did the job and google gave my site more value, because my old blog on a slow server never had readers.

This blog post got an A on gtmetrix, I think it’s pretty good.

AWS SMTP Not Working

If your aws smtp is not working and you use cpanel, that’s how I fixed it:

Login to your WHM, go to Tweak Settings>All>Restrict outgoing SMTP to root, Exim, and mailman (FKA SMTP Tweak) Switch it from «On» to «Off»

That works for all external SMTPs and my aws smtp works now very great.

If you use Post Smtp for wordpress the test mails won’t work, I think aws ses marks it as spam.
